Efficient resource use and the circular economy are of strategic importance to INALCA, considering them key elements within its commitment to sustainability. The company recognizes the value of the circular economy as a lever to optimize the use of resources, reduce waste, and promote more efficient and responsible production models.

Energy, efficiency and valorization of by-products

In general, cattle farming and its processing chain represent one of the most complex, regenerative, and circular systems in existence, thanks above all to the multiplicity of use of the numerous products obtained from this chain. INALCA, over the past 25 years, has further enhanced the circularity of its production system, investing in technologies and developing on a large scale best practices aimed at reusing by-products and waste from its production cycles, both industrial and agricultural.

In addition to primary products such as meat and its derivatives, industrial activity also produces many co-products, intended for a wide variety of uses. In fact, there are many interactions between meat processing and other supply chains: from biomedical (organic heart valves) to pharmaceutical (drug capsules, heparin, etc.), from leather goods (leather accessories, leather, etc.) to cosmetics (creams, soaps, detergents), to feed and pet food and pet toys (chewing items).

Furthermore, in relation to agricultural activity, INALCA’s commitment is expressly directed towards the continuous search for
efficiency in livestock farming, waste recovery activities, as well as the development of circular economy processes, with particular reference to the use of waste and other biomass usable for the production of green energy and fertilizers (digestate and blood).
